Last week in Les Gets Kona launched their 2006 bikes, after the spyshots of the new Stinky (http://www.mbaction.com/detail.asp?id=1294) last month, there are no huge suprises in the new range. Kona entering their 18th year are sticking to their tried an tested designs, you'll notice some evolution going on but no dramatic changes. A good example of this is the new rocker arm (http://www.bikemagic.com/news/images/kona06_stinkylink_big.jpg) on the Stinky bikes, it's a good bit longer than previous years, for a lower leverage ratio and a lot more milled out, to save a bit of weight.
The Stinky line up also gets travel upped to 7", lower standover thanks to a new tube layout and a curved downtube to help shock clearance. Interesting to note that the 2006 Marzocchi forks appear to be coming with post type brake mounts, a bit of a change in direction for them.

The Stab Supreme looks not a lot different to this years bike, the rocker arm is more svelte than previous years, but the world cup bikes have had this for a while. The Stab Supreme is now specced with Fox 40s which will keep the racers happy. However, the orange rims are definately a matter of taste. There will also be a short travel full sus 4X bike for 06 called the Howler, geometry and handling thanks to Fabien Barel.

One of the bikes which is sure to be a good seller next year is the new CoilAir (do you see what they've done...). Fox's new DHX Air shock holds the back up and a Fox 36 RC2 sits at the front, this will be black on the Konas rather than the usual poop brown. Components include Race Face Atlas & Evolve and Hayes El Camino brakes. Don't be suprised to hear SteveB touting this as his "next best thing", but with Maverick DUCs on the front of course .

The Dawg range won't change much apart from some colour alterations, the same 5" of travel 05. Pretty much the same story with the XC race oriented kikapu range. Kona's beefy hardtails have had a few tweaks. The Cowan dirt-jump bike is now compatible with deep-insertion headsets and the singlespeedable back end has interchangeable dropouts, letting you run a 12mm rear through-axle if you need a bit more beef at the back. The Cowan will come in a rather splendid baby blue for the fahionista dirt jumper. Don't expect too much to change in the rest of the hardtail range.
If you have to be different, in a "look at me, i'm an attention seeking freak" kind of way, Kona has thought of you too. Check these things out: The Joe (http://www.bikemagic.com/news/images/kona06_cruiser_big.jpg) is a chopper-type cycle for those of you with arms like a gorilla, that's designed to be slightly more practical than last year's Bikehotrod which was truly unusable. There is the Jake Cyclocross bike and the Jake 2-4 (http://www.bikemagic.com/news/images/kona06_jake24_big.jpg) for kids (or short people)

There is the new Ph.D is a kind of uber-hybrid/flat-bar road bike with lots of pimey superlight bits, not to be confused with the new Trek PHD (http://www.singletrackworld.co.uk/mod/submit/images/1610-5.jpg) (based on a ship's anchor and aesthetic touches by Stevie Wonder). You will now also be able to get a 29" wheeled Unit, if the novelty of riding singlespeed wasn't unique enough for you!
There were also some kids bikes and some new ladies stuff but you won't be interested in that, check out konaworld (http://www.konaworld.uk.com/) for more info when it arrives.
