Harvesting in Moneyscalp, due to have started in Jan, is now scheduled to commence in May/June. The reason for the delay is the amount of wind blown suffered in other forests.
Michael Fairgrieve, Harvesting Officer for Forest Services commented:
Moneyscalp itself suffered from 7 hectares of windblow on the north side (facing Castlewellan.) So that we can incorporate this additional windblown timber volume into our production plans harvesting has been postponed until May/ June at the earliest.
This additional area should not cause any problems as it is adjacent to the planned felling coupe and users will be warned of any constraints or hazards by normal operational safety signs.
