The UCI World Championships will be held in Rotorua, New Zealand, during August 2006. The event village and courses for the Worlds will be purpose built on the slopes of Mount Ngongotaha, this will optimize spectator access and TV coverage and locate cross country, downhill, 4-cross and trials in one venue.

Stage 1 design work is complete and work began on the Downhill course on Mount Ngongotaha in late April 2004. With the arrival of springtime in New Zealand - in October - major earthworks began on the 4X, clearing and pruning of the XC course started and work continued on the downhill. All courses will be raced on for the first time at the New Zealand National one-off Championships in February 2005. For these Championships, the downhill will start from the airfield at 640 metres above sea level on Mount Ngongotaha, with the finish line at 300 metres above sea level. This is stage 1 of the downhill course development. Depending on times and feedback after the Nationals, extra elevation may be added for the 2006 Oceania Championships in March and the World Championships in August.
The Kiwis are taking this very seriously, they have already started building the 4X track, and it is going to be the biggest, most challenging the world has seen.

4X Design
Now check this picture (http://www.imfour.org/icepeeps/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=542) out, looks good doesn't it now look for the orange JCB, that will give you an idea of scale. This track is going to be HUGE. A feature of Jeff Carter's 4X course will be the "Wall Ride". It's close to the end of the run and forms the "corner" of a fast sweeping section, again check out the scale of this!
