Going to give kirroughtree a blast for a day the 12th week seeing as its cheap and planned on doing the red route. Any advice or hints from previous visitors? (Can we avoid "Dont go its s**t" Ive heard it already)

Advice? Turn up, ride your bike and go home satisfied! It really is that simple.

Cant say much more than Aul Han, it really is that simple.
They have a shop and cafe onsite (with bike wash), and the routes are all very well sign posted.
Have a great time, btw the second half of the run is much more fun that the first, it manages to feel like you are decending much further than you have climbed and all of it on great single track.

If you can manage the distance do the black instead. It's not really any more difficult than the red apart from distance & some climbing, but the descent from the top of Heartbreak Hill is superb.
K/tree isn't particularly technical, doesn't have jumps as such or any gnarly stuff that you can't simply bypass & just get on with enjoying some great singletrack.
Enjoy.

Love KT, did'nt think i'd like manmade trails but this place is a blast. even at minus 4 as it was when the Bap Munchers went over in January " Yea well'ard"
Nothing to nasty as the nasty bite's have " chicken runs " right by them if you need to use'em.:)
Just leave your brakes alone and you'll be grinning all the way.:)
p.s if the girly that works in the shop's there ,can you ask for my glasses that i dropped the last time i was there cheers.:p
pps you can change in the toilets and dont bother with the ****e food on the ferry , to much money for to little quality , feed yourself befor you go, if the cafe's open at KT , have there soup + rolls hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.:);)

We usually stopped at the garage before the terminal & got breakfast rolls in there, too expensive on the boat for what you get.
Plenty of places to get changed, you'll have the whole carpark. There are toilets, but no specific changing area or showers or owt like that.
Carrot cakes meant to be really good too.

if you decide after doing the red loop that you want to do another 10K or something, there are plenty of opportunities to create your own short loops by cutting between the outbound and inbound trail on forest road - just study the map a wee bit and you'll suss it out fine.
Having said that, try and talk your mate into the full black route, it's worth the pain!

mabie is the guts of 2 hours from the boat, k'tree is 45 mins.
we went to mabie on our last weekend trip but only done the 1st section of the red which was really really nice then headed over to the kona darkside which was a fair trip (guts of 20k return pedal) only to find out it was scary as fook and near on impossible lol
se we just dicked about in the skills area and 4 cross track on the way back.
but if the rest of the loop is as good as the start its probably worth the drive.
that being said k'tree is a great spot, flowing and not too hard(technical) but hard in the sense thats the blacks a slog lol
