Has anyone cycle d from Troon to Ardrossan along the minor roads/path/tracks close to the coast?

Yep, there's a sustrans route right along the coast, takes you straight to the ferry terminal, takes about an hour, maybe 2 for you ;-0 not quite 70K so cramps shouldn't be a problem...

if you get off the troon ferry just after nine am , you can comfortably get the ardrossan ferry about 12. 30 . and arrive on arran an hour ( i think ) later. the route winds in and out of cycle tracks , behind housing estates , and along the seafront .its about 12 miles, i think it is a great way to get to arran for a weekend on the bike . the only problem is that the route isnt that obvious at times. sustrans have a map of the route, which helps when you inevitably get lost . if you get the 2.30 ferry from brodick , you are back to troon in time to have a meal in a very good seafood resteurant at the marina before the evening ferry
