This Saturday City park Craigavon will be the venue for the next trailblazers bike navigation event – The Northern Ireland MTBO champs will be held around the Craigavon lakes takinf full advantage of the exciting purpose built trails. Here are some more detials for the Craigavon event.

The tracks and trails are in great condition despite the recent heavy rains. Mountain bikes are recommended. the terrain is 50% fast park paths (most tarmaced) and 50% technical single track.

All controls will be located on paths (there will be no need for control descriptions)You must visit them in sequence – although it is upto you how you navigate from one control to the next. You must stay on paths at all times. Please respect fair play by riding on paths only. Although MTBO is mainly a solo sport you are welcome to ride in pairs if you prefer. There will be plenty of help and advice available on the day if required.

Sport-ident timing system will be used and maps will be pre-printed.

There will be 3 courses available. A long course with an expected winning time of around an hour (this will be for the NI champs) A middle course with expected winning time of around 30 minutes and a short course for juniors and novices. All competitors must wear a helmet and map boards are recommended. The park will be busy on Saturday with other members of the public, please respect them and be courtious at all times.

Registration will be held at the Craigavon watersports centre at the Craigavon lakes situated just off Lake Road. Registration is from 1100am with starts from 1130am, Registration is on the day, please register as a member with the TCA before the event – This saves £2 admin fee on the day too!!

The Craigavon watersports centre have toilets and changing facilities. A cafe will also be open during Saturday providing Hot drinks and cold snacks. The centre can also Hire you a bike for the event for a small fee.

It would be great to see a large turnout for this fun event wit a serious side!!
The event is suitable for all ages and abilities and is great for juniors and famalies and those who take their MTBO serious as well – see you there!!
