I'm finding the bar width on my IH MkIII a bit on the wide side, every time I'm riding I feel a bit like an ape with my arms stretched apart! Is it okay to just take a hacksaw to the bars to shorten them slightly, or is it better to just buy narrower bars?

Yes, it perfectly ok, take a bit from each side, be careful not to take to much.

You should experiment with the position of your grips first before getting the hacksaw out!

Good thinking, will loosen up my grips and shifters and move them over to see where is comfortable before I get the hacksaw out :)

...and a pipe cutter might make it a bit tidier.

Wide bars are good, you just need to get used to them. They give you more control of the front end. I run 700mm with no rise and I love them, but I could go bigger again. J

Surely a hacksaw would do this job? Why use pipecutters?

A pipe cutter does a far better job. A hacksaw will do though, I don't think there's any correct way... maybe Sorly can confirm when he comes on :p

LOL!!

I agree with testing before hacking, bars that are too narrow feel unsafe IMO *cough*monty*cough*

I use a pipe cutter for cutting anything resembling a pipe, or tube if you must.

Hacksaw will do it but will take more time and you will need to be more careful to get the cut straight. Good pipe cutter will have it cut in about 5seconds

I have very skinny wrists, give me a break.

In saying that, i'd hope my skinny wrists would get the job done a few seconds quicker than your skinny arms ;)

When you are as fast as me its all a blur.

"Where's me keys... Where's me phone... WHERE'S ME WATCH"

You'll be late for your own funeral
