Ordered some nice bolts off ebay, I think it sets the calipers off nicely.

£5 for 12 bolts delivered, and he does all types of bolts + nuts etc.....

Just be careful were you use them.

Some bolts are steel for a reason, 12 bolts for £5 isnt alot so im guessing by the price they are cheap rubbish...

You'd think that, but I had one of them sheer tested at my old place of employment.

It broke at 0.12 % before the the steel comparison bolt.

Which is nice for aluminium, and considering I served my time as a mechanical engineer, looks good to me.

The guys name on Ebay is beauty*max , I've nothing to do with him but his products are good.

If you order anything and believe all the arm chair engineers that it wont be strong or is rubbish, then give a sample to me and i'll get it tested with a report of testing, just to clarify.

A few years working on oil rigs has me a bit fussy on strength and stuff

Your some pup Sorly, all that by 24?? Fair play till ye.

I still wouldn't trust your cheap alloy bolts. Tbh, 12 bolts for a £5, they aught to be the biggest loada ****.

Just outta interest? When testing, did you put the bolts in tension before testing the shear stregth? Or did you just use a simple tensile test and pull them apart. Remember you need to take fatigue into account aswell.

I got a few cheap ano'd bolts off the bay once and horsed one into an alloy block, torque'd it an the head came clean off, I threw them in the bin.

Yeah, thats the joys of having a little daughter to support and having to leave school and start working, was never happy with one career and I've always wanted to travel with my jobs, So I took pay cuts to gain other trades.

the bolts were tested using by the axial tensile method, little washer applied and pulled apart using the test rig. Albeit it was compared to a bolt that had been used in a mandrel previously.

I'm not saying these bolts are the be all and end all, but a few machinists confirmed that they are more than adequate to hold a caliper. I wouldn't be running them on a pivot or the likes.......

Mad talk, Alu bolts on a brake mount is a bad idea. The amount of force they go through when the brake is locked on is a lot and amplified by the large rotor size. 12% is a big difference.
The question is, if it is a good idea then why do the mounts not come with Alu bolts?

Give the guy a break. firstly whoever said that £5 is cheap for some bolts, if you think that you should see how much hardware shops buy them for. Bolts have a ridiculous mark up particularly by bike manufacturers. take pedal pins for example. i would never buy the "branded" grub screws when i can get the same ones in a good hardware store for at least half the price. Also fair enough for the sake of a few grams it is a much better idea to use steel bolts for calipers due to the forces etc but the guy was merely just trying to suggest a product to people so if you don't like it don't buy it. there is no need for all the b*tchiness. Maybe he could even give a bit of feedback in a few months time and let us know how there holding up. Also in fairness to the guy alot can be achieved in 9 years from leaving school.e.g. you could finish your a levels and complete a medical degree and be practicing in a hospital by age 24 and if i had gone on to complete a phd I would have been 24/25 when finishing so less of the slagging, just ride your bikes, buy the parts you want to buy and respect other riders. we all have the same thing in common and its hard enough to get any respect off anyone else never mind other riders turning on us so wise up.
