Do you just want to install linux on it?

If so the linux installation disc will be able to format the laptop fine. Ill give you a call later and talk you through it if your free

Hi,
On most laptops there is a recovery partition which can be accessed via hot keys on boot up. This partition contains an image of the windows installation when it leaves the factory.
You could borrow a cd e.g. xp which is the same version as the licence sticker on the bottom of the laptop and use that key.
If it doesn't have a partition, or you don't have an original cd, you could do as mprules says and download a linus distro, like ubuntu or kubuntu and install it.

Give me a pm if you need a hand.
