Recntly bought two new tyres for my bike, and haven't got round to putting both of them on yet.

I was running 2.1 tyres before hand, and I'm not sure what width the rims are.

I'm now running a 2.35 high roller on the front, and have a 2.5 Minion for the rear.

My rear rim looks pretty narrow, and I was just wondering if the 2.5 Minion will be suitable for it.

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

What are the rims? Iff mavic, the last two digits on their newer rims give the width internally in mm. For a 2.5, you'd want about a 21mm rim minimum I'd say. Mavic's site has tyre widths for their rims, or you'll normally find a sticker on the rim with widths and pressures on it.

If not a mavic, google the rim name, and the manu's site should have details of recommended tyre sizes.

Hmm ok, I'll sort that out for the weekend.

Obviously I've got a thing to learn about MTbing, but I'd've thought that this would make rolling quite heavy?

Front end grip more important than back end, you lose the front and thats usually an off, you lose the back and you can catch it, supposedly...

The laws of physics would suggest this to be true.

I will try this and let you know how it goes, although is a Minion really suitable for a front tyre, or does it really matter?

If its a minion DHF (front) then it'll be fine, if its a DHR (rear) it will also be fine but may not perform as efficiently as the front.

As above, and the "narrow" tyre on the rear will make the bike easier to pedal as well. I have 819 rims and 2.35 tyres and this works fine. I would even try 2.4 or 2.5.
