View Full Version : Helmets, cool looking, but occasionally handy for keeping your head intact.

Was out there last night and going accross One of those narrow platforms made from two tree branches with little pieces of wood nailed all the way along (sorry can't remember what they're called)
Eventually came a cropper and fell flat on my back from about 4' in the air, and cracked the back of my head really hard on a big log at the same time.
Got up and shrugged it off
I can't believe how well my helmet proteceted me, like it didn't even hurt at all!
I'd've been hospitalised if it wasn't for it.
Deadly :D

Giro do a really good crash replacement service, or at least they did, not sure if they still do? You send off your crash damaged one and they send you one back at a very well discounted price. Personally if I had taken a big hit to the head I would get the helmet replaced... I know lighting isn't meant to strike twice and all but... then again my Giro only cost me about £30-40... I imagine a carbon Remedy might be worth a bit more than that ;)

The material inside the outer shell might have deformed and wont work quite aswell the next time. (If there is one ;) )

They still do. You should get a new Remedy Carbon for about half price.

Seriously mate. If you have taken as bad a fall as you have described there. Your Helmet is a scrapper.
It a new one bought under the that crash replacement service.

I gave my helmet about two fairly good digs and I replaced it. You know the sort of crashes where you dont know what the hell is happening and then a massive bang on your bonce. Looking back it should have been replaced after the first one.
Helmets all seem to conform to the same standard except some are better vented or suit different shape heads or whatever. At the end of the day though its just a piece of foam that will deform on impact and the material will not give the same protection again.
After one good knock Im replacing my helmet from now on.

If I were you I would replace it. That way you will be certain that if you repeat the spill you will be able to talk about it again! :-)

Another website;)
I fell over at a wedding in 2006 and hit the back of my head, was off work for 7 weeks with post concussion syndrom and took nearly two years before all the syntoms have passed.
Get a new lid, only £50!

How much is a helmet, say for argument about £30 - £130. How much for a new head?;)
