Anyone else seen it yet? Cracking film, not quite what I'd expected but all the better for it.
If you've watched and enjoyed Peter Jacksons earlier films like Bad Taste then you get where District 9 is coming from. It's the film he wanted to make when he had no budget.
Set in South Africa instead of the usual USA, it adds the value of comedy accents into a film which is packed with cool visuals.

Yes, awesome stuff. Loads of fun, one of my favourite films this year. Fockin great man. FOCK!!

Apart from the fact that it's written and directed by Neill Blomkamp and is a natural progression of his earlier work. He was making short films that are stylistic and thematic precursors to D9 years ago.

Yeah, actually I read up on that after I posted. Nonetheless I think he has clearly been influenced by Jackson...?

Spark were you at the Jet Centre, 9.30? Wasn't your lot that got a telling off from the attendant was it? ;)

Meh, he hardly invented splatter. That being said PJ produced it so he probably made the odd suggestion.

Good to see a film that's a little different from the standard run of the mill films. Wickes or whatever the lead character's name is sounds rather scottish when he swears. Fockin hilarious

I'd be scared of a District 10 unless they can get Blomkamp to direct again. Too much chance of it descending into a Starship Troopers kind of mess

District 9 was very good, plot holes everywhere.
Like, when they are experimenting on him in the secret lab, he escapes though the fire exit????
And when cornered later he cannot find the same fire exit, that he should have gone through to get into the lab instead of going thro the building the long way.
Good film tho

There was a plot?
To me the film maker started out with a cracking idea, then bottled it and instead went for total and utter nonsense.
I mean, come on, the "juice" that powers the ship, also turns humans into the aliens? That is some co-incidence. They could actually have gone on a really good trip with that, but totally ingored the obvious "humans are descendants of the aliens" theory. Again, like the whole alien/illegal immigrant and apartaid (sp?) parallels that were hinted at in the beginning of the film ,they bottled it and just for a low grade splatter movie.

awh that is very weird. im just waiting to watch the film now and this little thread pops up. i think i will enjoy it though, im a bit of a sci fi geek! lol

Come on Steve, if the other thread proves anything, it proves that nothing has to be proved.
Why should sci-fi be any different? ;)

sorry lads, I love sci fi, even cheesy ones and I thought this film was dreary. I just didn't get in to it.. I absolutely hated the main guy, the Aliens were good though ..but its all been done before, Alien Nation comes to mind..

I kind of agree with doc, but I thought it was OK, just OK, no more!! As a fan of sci-fi, was disappointed as a whole. The idea is obviously borne out of raising, or trying to raise awareness of a dark period in the nations history through the medium of sci-fi, but it was a little to art-house for me, never really got going, what plot there was, was riddled with holes, obviously designed with a sequel in mind based on its success, and for those referencing PJ earlier work and that this was the film he always wanted to make, not sure about that, and how much involvement he had? Especially when you look at the detail he lavished on the LOTR trilogy, now I know the budgets involved differ massively, but still, too many plot holes for me to think he had a massive involvement.
Bring on Cloverfield 2! :D

District 9 made for $30m, as i read some where Michael Bay has dreams that cost more than that!
