Last weekend saw the Adidas Slopestyle event kick off in Saalbach, Austria. Darren Berrecloth came through to take the win ahead of Chase, Zinc and Pritzel (last years winner). The course, designed by Gareth Dyer, was an amazing mix of large features, dirt jumps and more technical lines suited to street inspired moves. There were HUGE shore sections, wall rides, a six pack of large dirtjumps, and some interesting features, like a dumper truck and a cable car!

Chris Smith broke his shoulder practicing for Slopestyle, Chris had been riding his downhill bike but decided to try the course on his hardtail so that he could throw some barspins into his run. On one of the obstacles though he ran wide, landing on a soft patch of earth which catapulted him over the handlebars: "I flipped over a couple of times and when I picked myself up my shoulder was round by my nipple. I was like 'bugger'. The ambulance people took me off to hospital and put me on a morphine drip - I'd dislocated one shoulder and broken the other. I reckon I'd have ridden it out if I was on my full-sus bike. My hardtail's set up really hard and it's only got 24" wheels...

"I spoke to Cedric Gracia - he did something similar a while back - and he reckons I could be back in three weeks. My doctor's sending me to a specialist so we'll see what he says."
