^is what my mech looks like at the minute. As you can see it is right up against the chainstay, while it should be about an inch(ish) from it!
What do I do to get it down to where it should be as it's currently burying it'self into my chainstay and dis-aligning(sp! Lol) itself!
Cheers.

tighten the crub screw on the back and shorten the chain, but tbh im not familiar with that type of mech

Ok, what you want is the B-tension screw. Make sure that the sprung loaded bit of the mech where it screws onto the mech hanger is behind the little tab on the mech hanger and the screw pushes against the tab. Twist the whole mech so it is almost pointing towards the back of the bike when attaching it to the mech hanger.
Can you get a close up of where the mech attaches to the hanger?

If I have to shorten the chain, does anyone have any tips for doing it because it always seems to take me hours getting the pin back in! and half the time when i do, i've siezed the link or something!!!:banghead:

Bin the pins, and use SRAM powerlinks instead. So so so much easier buddy, 20secs and your chain is split:D

Nice one Andy! Goes good again now :D:D:D:D
The allen key jobby where it goes onto the hanger was loose! :O!
I should have checked it before I gave you's the bother here! But, I had just got it back from the bike shop in dromore and supposedly he had 'set it up' (after I had left it back 3 times because he hadn't set it up half right) and I've only been out one day in tolly since then so since he had 'set it up' I expected it to be something a bit more serious than a loose bolt!!
Thanks for the help anyway ! :)

Do you know, I'm just after buying a brand new(straight from crc) Sram PG890 chain, the 'best' 8 speed chain in Sram's range. First off, I couldn't actually figure out how on earth to get the powerlink apart once I'd put it together(:o) and secondly, after about 2hr's riding I had snapped it. After 4hrs I had seized a link(maybe my 'pin putting in' abilities where to shame there:o) and after 4 and a half hours I had snapped the damn thing again!
So, the guy in the bike shop thankfully put on a new one for free when putting on my new cassette after telling me that that chain was a piece of crap!::yikes::
So, powerlink or no powerlink, it could take a bit of persuasion for me to spend another £25 on a Sram chain!

Monty - I would have fixed it for you on St paddys day, but i thought you said that it was broke?
The problem is to do with where you have attached the mech to the hanger.
The bit attached to the mech hanger, should be pointing towards 9 on a clock (or away from the bike), as opposed to 6 at the minute.

Did i say it was broke? I probably did:rolleyes: Dont worry about it.
Aye, i figured that out when i took a proper look at her there now. Thanks anyway :)
Yeh LWatson :D, there is. Not sure if it qualifies as a bike shop though, I could do a better job in my own garage! Just left it in to him because I had a bit of spare money and thought I may aswell get it set up perfectly and not have to worry about it rather than me setting it up and constantly worrying about it.. its seems i was wrong though!
Can't say he's pure awful though as he did a half decent job of trueing my back wheel and putting on a cassette. And he did give me a free chain.
JR Magill cycles or something close to that. he has a website.
