:banghead: that really is an accident waiting to happen.
If your gunna do something, do it right. Bring a saw aswell. Good on use for doing a bitta digging, in future; keep it it dirt, that just doesn't look safe. IMO I don't see the point in your 'north shore'. Not only is it on a bit of trail that I ride on a regular basis it is also a huge eye-sore. There's plenty of space in that area to build your own lines and jumps.

March 08-2009, 09:59 PM
it was very secure that was only when it was geting built we coverd it in dirt alot of dirt and it is really secure. next week we will bring a shouvle and do away with the logs and just use dirt.

Look, well done for trying. There is no harm in getting out there and getting your hands dirty - if more people did it, we'd have more places to ride. Most of us are guilty of not doing enough.
But there are a lot of things you need to take into consideration before you throw something like that up.
If you're going to build something first of all learn how to build. If something isnt reasonably solid then it's dangerous. Also you need to be pretty sure what you're building is actually better than what was there before, last summer we were hitting that wee drop on hardtails and it seemed fined to me.
Your best bet is to ask some of the older guys you ride with what they think before you go doing any damage. If somethings worth building then it's worth taking the time to give it serious thought, ask for input from more experienced riders, then build it to last. It's a learning process.
If you build something ugly, dangerous or out of place then you are going to piss off a lot of people ( I know, I know). Loads of people ride around there and within reason, you want to try and be sensitive to everyones needs, and at the same time you need to try to make the trails look better - not worse.
At the minute there are loads of trails around belvoir which could benefit from general maintenance as opposed to big ugly jumps being built - maybe you could start with that?
downhilldude
March 08-2009, 11:07 PM
ok thanks for understanding we will get it all took away asap. + we have been cleaning up some of the trails around belvor takeing away all the sludge ect. see just left to that there is a drop well we made a landing ramp and there was a couple of guys today who thoght it was very neat.

He means the forestry commission more or less.
.ps who keeps wrecking the pond gap jump
How should we know? I take it you guys rebuilt it after the fs wrecked it? Anyway...... putting a 7 foot log across the top of a two foot take off looks completely stupid. So does building anything with pallets. Thats the kind of thing that attracts negative attention from walkers, forestry commission and other bikers.
thats the drop with the landin ramp now thats not so bad is it
It's impossible to tell. To me it looks like the lip which used to there is gone now, is that right?

Well you'll probably never ever know who wrecks what. All you can do is try to build things that blend in, look natural and are solidly constructed.

the drop there in the picture is awsome with the landing ramp really nice landing.

Building good features is like making a good meal. The first taste is with the eye.
Build them pretty and build them strong, and as said before - try to make them blend in. If it looks like it has been there for a while, it's far less likely to attract unwanted attention.
Good work on getting your hands dirty fellas.
Maybe you could build a new feature rather than tarting up* existing ones?
* there is currently no word in the english vocabulary to describe what I really mean here. ;)

The trail through the house is really dodgy now, a landing has been built in an attempt to make another step down to the left of the original one. Unfortunatley its right in the middle of the line that most people would take through there, it needs flattened.

I flattened it last night. Instead of actually riding my bike like I set out to do. I took away the landing for the completely stupid drop and I used it to fill in the hole at the top of the bank (to the right of that centre tree) which was slap bang in the middle of a run in to three trails.
I also used the remainder of it to try and fill in the hole (which is not in that picture) which is about 3ft wide and roughly a foot deep and right beside the landing. I mean right beside it. It's not completely filled yet.
I havent cleared the scrap metal or logs which have mysteriously appeared there, which are obviously part of sxtrailrider and downhilldudes "mini north shore drop". It seems they couldnt be bothered to put them back wherever they found them, instead they just left them lying on the trail.
I've also not been able to do anything about all the other holes they've dug in and around that area. Looks like they were thoughtful enough to leave litter lying around too.
