I was going down a trail and went for the break and could'nt find the leaver it was like this i dont no what happened i think it was from comeing off on a berm. The break still works fine i just have the leaver tied back with a bit of string. what do i need to replace here and what sort of cash to fix it..thanks:eek:

Do hayes do that so you dont snap the levers off in a crash?
If you pull it back so its in its normal position, does it click into place and continue as normal?
I dont run hayes, so that could be rubbish.

Same thing happens to me nearly all the time. Looks like you have pulled the cir clip out that holds the piston and lever in.
Its easy fixed but best leavin it into your LBS and they will be able to fix it.

seen dat on a load of hayes nines, also seen people using a small elastic band to hold it back in place, just a suggestion,

yes that is correct there is a little silver clip that holds the piston in place it must of poped out. is it an expensive fix. thanks

Happened me I just got super glue and stuck it back in.

There should be a a wee bar attached to the lever, the other end of which is ball shaped. The ball clicks into a cup inside the master cylinder housing behind a rubber shoe with a hole in it.
Is there a washer hanging off this bar ? if so you have probably lost your circlip. If not you have possibly pulled the ball end through the washer and it will need replaced or reflattened.

or you local bike shop (LBS) might have a suitable washer or circlip
