he's rite jr t's arent great. if you can you should save and go for a good set of forks. drop offs are cheap and reliable but have no rebound or commpression adjustment. if you still don't want to spend much on forks i've a set of 06 drop offs for sale. [pm me if you fancy them]

trailfox
February 16-2009, 07:52 PM
believe me a set of boxxers would be better than JuniorTs
downhilldude
February 16-2009, 08:32 PM
if you only have £80 and you are looking for something better than you already have. it's not going to happen.for £80 you can get these
sxtrailrider95
February 16-2009, 08:36 PM
yea jonny like u would know what your talking about
downhilldude
February 16-2009, 08:44 PM
well lets face the facts!!! £80 what can you get with that. suntour/rst or a broken set of double crowns.what you have is fine you dont need more travel.

February 16-2009, 08:44 PM
Well if you have 80 notes to spend on a set of front forks the old saying "Beggars can't be choosers" comes to mind.
You are not going to be able to get much in the way of triple clamp for that money. Personally a set of boxxers at £80 quid would be alot better than a set of junior T's.
Someone can correct me if i am wrong but where the Junior T's not replaced by the triple clamp drop-off's?
downhilldude
February 16-2009, 08:49 PM
i agree, but what he has is fine. They are real nice forks he has.!!!

I doubt it, I got my Boxxers for £100 posted, and my mate got two sets (though admittedly, one needed new seals, and the other a top crown) for £155 posted. Look hard enough and it will come. Over on Irish DH, you can get Drop Offs with a front wheel for £60.
downhilldude
February 16-2009, 09:06 PM
but the thing is.£80/£60 quid which he might be geting is not alot for a good set of forks ok you might get a set for £80 but i am sure they are done and they have hade a hard life. and what he has is much better he thinks he needs more travel but he dosen't he is only a beginner.!!!

7" is 5 cm bigger than Junior T's. (Mine was an '02 World Cup, he had another set of '02s and '04 Teams).

February 16-2009, 09:31 PM
he has the original forks that come with the iron horse yakuza 140mm travel
Junior DH
February 16-2009, 09:35 PM
Yakuza are 7" aren't they? Or am I thinking of the Yakuza Kumicho (sp?). If it has 140mm in the back there's no point fitting triple clamps. Get 160mm Bomber's or something similar for DH/FR
Aaron B
February 16-2009, 09:48 PM
if your forks are well set up you shouldn't need any more than 160mm travel for the vast majority of riding in N.I.
Triple clamps may look cool but you'll be scundered pushing a heavy bike back up the hill and for £80 you'd be better saving a bit longer for somethin worth getting

i agree with Aaron B

i've a set of 888RC2X lying in my room that i took off my Supreme cos they made it too heavy for the type of riding that i was doing at the time, the bike is faster and freeier to ride with my current Fox 36 VanR that i got set up properly by Mojo
Being a fast DH rider isn't about how hard you can smash through things or how much travel you can use its about being smooth and floating over rough sections and taking the big drops with your bike in the correct position to absorb the landing. Try not to rely on big ammounts of travel to do the work you should be doing yourself by riding properly

i am his mate and go out on the trails with him and i have rode his bike and trust me it dosen't need more travel the forks he has are class forks.the only reason he want's tripple clamp forks is because he thinks they look cool. i agree but it is stupid changeing the forks when they are working fine and great for his riding style..he should save up and pimp it out latter down the line..thanks

now now fellas, can i ask why you's just didn't get better specced hardtails to begin with if you's are only beginners?
Like Aaron B said, blindly bombing through a section or hucking off some random drop to flat on a 7-8" DH rig wont teach you as much if any about riding a bike when you are a beginner. If you have a hardtail or a short travel bike you get alot more feedback from the bike if you do something wrong so you are made to improve your skill and flow if you want to enjoy that trail. Most of the faster riders on this forum started on hardtails or short travel bikes and have much more experience and skill that way. You just need to go somewhere like moneyscalp and watch how some of the fast riders hit certain lines, at the start it just looks like theyre just hammering through sections but if you look close they are actually picking lines and using elements of the trail to avoid some sections that less skilled riders would struggle with. Id say forget about your kit unless something is broken and just concentrate on technique. see stevie's thread or dirtmag.co.uk I think they did a few articles/videos which i found very helpful. pre-jumping, manualling and taking advantage of those pesky rock gardens and rooty sections to gain speed and the like :-)

You should never say things like that. Now you have gone and done it.
I was out every weekend last year and practiced like mad. First race of this year fell and broke two bones in my wrist. Just got my cast off yesterday.

junior t's are an awesome fork once set up correctly. i got a set off ebay for £60 and cleaned them up, worked like a treat for a year until i got boxxers.
the junior t forks are very simple, coil and spring so not much to go wrong. they are also pretty solid (unless trailbuilder is on the bike)

always keep a hardtail. you can never beat going down a trail on a wee hardtail, really brings the trail alive!it is very easy to plough through stuff with 7'' of travel

Were/are you out for long? My friend broke his wrist during a (Gaelic) football match, played on (this is were the Gaelic part comes in, lots of use of the hands), and was only in a cast for three weeks.
