Someone's gonna say it, so it may as well be me. Please wear a helmet doing stuff like this, particularly if you want to live until you're old enough to post in the adult's forum.

Um as much as i hate to be the guy who pulls out the mod card, this is the youth forum and according to steve:

"Anyone over the age of 16 using this forum is warned DO NOT FLAME. Anyone doing so, no matter how light hearted will be banned immediately from the entire site."

I know this may seem a bit harsh as the folk in question are not exactly following the rules themselves but try not to feed them etc etc.

monty
February 02-2009, 11:44 PM
What does that mean?
That means that he's going to end up toothless if he keeps on letting his head drop so much!
(Do you really not know what that means or are you just(attempting to be)having a laugh!?)

I do find it offensive, they are promoting dangerous cycling. In a way it is fueled by them participating in this forum which can be surmised by the fact that they put the video up on the forum to receive comment on their actions. If your going to bring up the new rules then you can't just bring them up in this case, under 16's are not allowed to post on the main forum yet one in particular still is.

It's good to see young lads out having a blast on their bikes. Keep on having fun on your bike, trying new stuff and wear a helmet if you want to. Teeth are highly overrated anyway ;)

whoever rides the kona really needs to set their bike up correctly and learn how to hit drops. if you ever hit anything over 5 foot your stem will be implanted in your head!

+1. To some extent the Iron Horse rider has the same issues, though he is quite a bit smoother. I'm not sure how much that weird head-bobbing thing is related to riding what is virtually a rigid front-end.

Are these bikes bought from shops/dealers? If so, I can't believe that they're letting these kids roll out the shop with such over-sprung and poorly tuned suspension. That, to me, is much more of a safety issue than riding in a field without their lids on.

They dont seem to compress when you land.

If they were too soft they would compress and potentially bottom out

marko
February 04-2009, 05:38 PM
i highly doubt that it is the bike that is the problem if it is correctly set up. your riding style needs to be adjusted. i think you have seen a video of someone landing a very large drop and have copied what their body done. try getting your weight more towards the back of the bike to stop your head from coming fowards. if you keep landing the way you are on bigger drops you will find yourself in hospital

February 04-2009, 06:00 PM
marko speaks the truth! Just saw the video, it looks nearly deliberate the way your heads are bobbing! Its not cool looking/safe at all.
O and landing to flat isn't great either..

If you go on to Youtube and watch the pro downhillers and free riders, they hit massive drops but always land on a downslope.

Even tho your bike might have loads of travel, on a flat landing your bike takes a hard battering, if you watch you video again I am near certain you can hear both your bikes scream in pain.

However there is one point in your vid that one of you does a bunny hop over a log and lands on the down slope. Thats the sort of stuff you wanna be practicing.

Guys always wear a helmet it should go with out saying.

Girvan
February 04-2009, 08:09 PM
Landing on a slope transferes some of your energy when you come down to ground, so the force is disapated in other words its much softer and best way to learn how to land. Flats only ok when you have learned how to use your legs and arms as suspension and ride out the impact.

sxtrailrider95
