Over the last year or so I have found myself ignoring the single player options on my xbox and heading for Xbox Live. It just seems more real and competitive.

Who plays online games? Whether it be Xbox Live, miniclip, poker, or whatever?

Is this the way things are going?

I've kinda gone the opposite direction. I've been gaming online since the original Xbox and even when the 360 launched the Xbox Live community was pretty good. Now its just filled with no it all, foul mouthed kids who seem to go out of their way to wind people up rather than actually play the game. I've got fed up sitting around in lobbies listening to rubbish waiting for games to start only to find the host leaves the game. So my Xbox Live expired at the start of this month and I haven't renewed it, instead I'm actually playing the games in good old single player mode and enjoying them like that. I do worry though that more and more games developers are putting a lot more emphasis on the online multiplayer side and doing little to make a decent single player game but hey.

50/50 between on line and single player.

COD4 works great on both. Gets irritating when a bunch of numpties are shouting and sh*t*ing on every time they get killed or kill someone, then they play crap music and then their dog goes off on one!

Find it pretty irritating when you're up against legendary players who blast you to bits every 2 seconds but it definitely makes for more interesting gaming rather than AI characters that stand there as they get their head blown off!

Happily getting stuck into Fallout 3. Definitely still think there's room for great single player games like Fallout or Ratchet and Clank. Call of Duty at a mid to high difficulty setting is pretty damn challenging.

I think alot of developers are starting to concentrate too much on the on-line part and the single player is nearly just a teaser for the on-line game (but is way too short)! But then they all see how WOW works and how much money can be made if you get it right!

I play Multiplayer on the PC, Mainly because i am an active member of a leading clan so i pay no attention to single player and just get straight into learning the maps ect ect. Been playing call of Duty5 world at war. for around 5 months now, well the BETA Version we got, We got the single player to test as well but i have not even installed it yet

I find the FPS games more challenging online. I've only had the 360 for under a year but got fed up with all the **** talk after day 1. So I don't plug in the headset and mute any twit who bugs me. Still playing COD4 (just about to break in the top 100,000 :o) and got Farcry 2 last week. I haven't played multiplayer on it yet, I like to finish a game, on the harder settings, first to get the feel for it before getting pwned by some teenie bopper.

xbox live is full of kids spouting alot of crudeness, ps3 dosnt suffer too bad with online abuse due to the fact kids cant afford a ps3 but there still there but the mute button is a life saver, im in the killzone 2 beta at the moment, and the dedicated servers are something else, no disconections or lag, makes COD's peer to peer system look very sub standard

killzone2 is the next big thing, its pc graphics on a consal, the online makes cod look like childs play, im ranked 20k on cod4 so im resonably good at it, but im finding killzone2 seriously hard im ranked 222 out of 15,000 in the beta, but you do certainly have to work for it, once killzone2 is out, youl soon forget about your xbox

Its Not bad, we got the Beta a few months back and the general gameplay is very well thoughtout. the maps are brilliant, lots of detail and the water is fantastic, Weapons are good, going back to WWII means there is no crasy stuff but there are a few surprises in there, Dogs for 1 anyways.

generally i like it alot. We get the full game for free too :)

during a cod4 game push select to see the scores, push x on the ones gobbing off, you got short listed for the beta if you downloaded the mulitplayer theme and trailers from the playstation store, LBP is ment to be awesome but personally havnt played it, should get away from cod4 its far too easy

COD4 on the 360. The wife has COD5 pre booked for me so I'll have it for the weekend!
Grid is good too as was Rainbow 6 Vegas but I rerely play that now.

There are as said some dumb ****ers on Live but you learn to ignore them. And their dogs, and children and wives and stupid phone calls to their friends about buying weed. Probably haven't seen a decent smoke!

That might sway me haha I don't know if I'm really looking forward to COD5 or not as for me the WW2 thing is getting a bit old. The ps3 controller has thethe trigger buttons of the Xbox, it has the Guide button of the Xbox, and it also has the tilt technology of Wii. When it came out they also stated that vibration technology was "last gen" before back tracking because it was so popular,

That looks absolutely unbelievable. Not surprised it surpasses COD. Got COD World at War & I'm a tad disappointed. It's definitely not as good as COD 4. Although need to give it a bit more time before I give a definite opinion but hopefuly it's as good on-line.

I'm only on the 2nd difficuty level (enough for me) but it's like a repainted version of COD4 but without all the class guns. There are stupid little glitches too like certain areas where an enemy has been positioned - on top of a few stones or from inside a hut! When you go to try and pick up their weapon, you can't get to it! They seem to have really limited the areas you can move arouund in. I know COD 4 was linear but this just seems ridiculous. The old footage at the start of each level stinks of propaganda too - I know it's a WWII game but it just seems different in a bad way from the other COD game or the old Medal of Honour games. I'm already sick of the enemies endlessly pouring in if you don't move forward through the level, or that's what it seems like anyway.

There's no life in the characters either. The first level in COD4 where your commander guy is puffing on his cigar in the helicopter as you wait for the assault on the boat had me mad to get stuck in. It sucked you in like a good film but so far, I'm just wanting the level intro to finish up!

cod4 was very engrossing, the sniper level was very intence, codwaw seems just a cod3.5, ive cleared rooms in cod5 with only one door in and have a german spawn behind me and shot me in the back, packman has better AI

Going by the on-line forums there seem to be quite a few people having the same problem as well as quite a few other issues. In my opinion Treyarch launched this game too soon without thorough tests. I've had no problem with any of the other COD games in the series up until this one. It looks like I'll be sticking with COD4 until Treyarch get these problems sorted out. :mad:

I'm actually quite enjoying CODWAW, was getting a bit bored of COD4 to be honest so its nice to learn some new maps and weapons in online play. That said it feels more like a map and weapon pack for COD4 than it does a whole new release, smells a bit of money grabbing coming up to Christmas but hey. And yes, after my first post in this thread I ended up re-subscribing to Xbox Live as I just couldnt resist the lure of TDM :)

I had the same problem, Make sure your graphics and directx9 drivers are all up to date, If you running xp there are things you need to change in your sound card option but i cant remember these

It's having encountered similar problems in the past that makes me more than happy to use a console for gaming these days. Can't beat sticking in a disc and of you go :)

yea there are a few early bugs, but its shapping up to be a good game when the mod tool are released and i can start mapping again. Have you changed the feq of the sound cards settings, that was the problem i was having. do a search for it and see what happens, alot of people had this problem when the beta was released to us

everyone seems to be writing treyarch off at the minute with this game(not anyone on here, callofduty.com), but seem to forget how many bugs cod4 had before 1.1 patch, far worse than this game, although i do agree with it being released to early and not had time to test on various configs. Guess it was a must get out for xmas thing

I know COD4 had bugs when it was released but at least I could get playing the game. :mad: I have tried all sorts of settings for the on-board sound. The only thing I haven't tried which I have seen that may work is to get rid of the Realtek drivers and use Microsoft Audio drivers. But I'm tempted to just buy one of the Soundblaster Cards. Btw Kenny what is your clan called? Have they many servers?

we are Stormclan [ST] Kenny, but we are not on call of duty 5 yet, usually play with the scottish lads @ NIP (nobodyisperfect.co.uk).

If you have tried everthing possible on the sound card i would just bit the bullet and buy a new one, there not too expensive.

Is it not coming to PC? Wish it was, graphics would be even sharper. Played the first one ages ago, was a good game.

One day in the future ps3 graphics will match that oh the pc untill then i am happy where i am :). There is talk of the PS3 one day producing 120FPS but the problem is that 99% of PS3 gamers use TV's even high end HD TV's are not even close to being able to refresh the screen 120 times a second. PS3's at the minute run around 60FPS which is not bad, But compared to what you can reach on a PC (with a good bit of cash) eg; 245FPS on COD4

Just watched a few trailers for killzone2 and it looks very good.

Yea i think it will be a while before it is capable of 120FPS, well untill the cell processors and graphics are dumped out of it and they figure out how to put a £2000 Gaming pc into the we small case and sell it for £400 odds :)

Dam, What graphics card are you using? i know you have updated all drivers. hmmmmm have you installed the patch 1.1?

Ok if you get this message "Error during initialization: Unhandled exception caught" this fix should help.


FIX-1

1- Go to Control Panel
2- The click on "Hardware and Sound"
3- Click on "Sound"
4- Doble click on "speakers"
5- go to the Advanced tab
6- Set the default format to "24 Bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality)"
7- Thats it!

FIX-2

1. goto My Computer
2. View System Info
3. Hardware
4. Device Manager
5. select Sound, Video, Game Controllers
6. DISABLE Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio device

Right i had this problem on the work machine my fix was to go download

d3dx9_37.dll

paste this straight into the cod waw folder and into -my computer - windows - system 32.

I'm using an NVIDIA 8800GTX graphics card. Have all the latest drivers and have applied 1.1 patch. Will double check the speaker settings but I'm sure I set them already. Haven't tried downloading the dll file. Where did you download it from?

No joy. Still having the same problem. I'm just going to having to wait and hope they release a patch that will fix the problem. In my opinion the developers from Treyarch need a hard kick in the ****s. :mad:

Yeah. I only downloaded it when I ran into this problem. I have already tried re-installing it, at this stage I'm totally fed up with the whole thing. Long live COD4 and screw COD5.

KiKerr as yet I don't have a gamer tag for COD5 as I can't get the stupid game to load properly. I hate Treyarch so much. I just play COD4 at the minute. I play on one of the SC clan servers but I'm not a clan member.

I have both 360 and ps3 and now a 42" tv to play them on and i have to say the 360 gets more game time , much much more. Is it as impresive in the gfx department? possibly not but then again im not sitting 2 feet from the screen to notice. As for blue ray im not convinced its how people will be doing buisness in 3/4 years time so im not willing to invest in it yet.

I guess the xbox is just that much more fun to pick up and play , My bro will be chuffed with his second hand ps3 he will be getting for xmas this year!

Im the same as Andy.

Have both but only really play the xbox, although i did play Metal gear for a good while on the PS3. PS3 will take another hammering when Resident Evil eventually comes out. Other than that xbox just seems so much easier.....

Heavy Rain is coming out on the xbox also James. And if their last game is anything to go by, it will be a good game to run in a shop to make you buy a PS3 but pants once you get past the visuals.

Good games are enhanced by good graphics. Good graphics are no use without a good game behind them. Good graphics fade very quickly

been looking at Heavy Rain and it seems little more than an interactive movie. Plays movie and you have to hit up, down left or right etc at the right time to make it do the right thing (Like Dragons Lair, from 1983) I enjoyed Dragons Lair in the Arcade but it has no staying power on a home console (Same with Space ace, Mad Do Mcree etc) Sorry if those are all unheard of games to most (misspent youth)

Heavy Rain is only a Ps3 exclusive since Sony 'encouraged' Quantic Dreams to develope it for The ps3 only, until then it was bound for the 360, Pc and even the Psp.


Dont get me wrong I think the PS3 is an impressive piece of kit, its Just doesnt seem to have any 'Must Have' Games for it yet. I have just got Ferrari Challenge for it so that might all change once I have a Blast
