Got access to a locked bikeshed in belfast - while it has walls and a roof and will keep my bike dry its gonna get cold.

The bike will be dry but it will get frosty etc -- how bad is it for the bike to be in cold conditions for a long time or will it be alright? Anyone any experience or knowledge, cheers

No experience of it Tiff but would be interesting to have some facts on it. I cant see how it should be a major issue. I suppose suspension would be under a little more pressure due to the expansion of the oil/water mix but I cant imagine it would be that great. Probably best to keep it upright in case of a really cold night and the oil would flow round fork seals if they're a bit worn but thats just my speculation.

i keep mine in my garage all the time. its always freezing at night and from my experance it never really effects the bike...would a few creeks in the bikes frame aftr taking it out be anything to do with the cold ?

id say it would be ok except if it goes between cold and warm and you get condensation makin the bike wet

Keep mine in the bedroom with me! (No room anywhere else!)

Anyone have a bike with Shimano brakes on them that leaves it out in the cold? Not sure how they would cope with freezing cold weather given that they are mineral oil.Probably blow the seals if they froze

My commuter was left out in a bike shed over weekends and stuff for about 4 years in all sorts of weather.

Everything was fine except nuts for things like the bottle cage/headset. These gained a bit of surface rust where the hexbit must have scored the plating or something.
