Riteo, need a new front wheel to fit my new pikes..
As I have never bought one before etc. was just wondering if I could just ask you guys a few things first..

Will the rockshox maxle fit with any 20mm hub?
What wheel would you recommend for an AM/DH hardtail.. on a budget!
Thanks very much. Monty.

All 20mm hubs are compatible with all 20mm axles.

If you are on a budget get Shimano SLX hubs with Mavic 721 rims. Very tough.

Looks good!
The slx hubs are 'centrelock', will they still work with disks that aren't centrelock as I just bought a new 203mm xt disc!
Around how much would it cost to get a good quality wheel build?

S**t... a normal rotor wont fit by the looks of it.
And whats the difference between 32 hole and 36 hole wheels?
Thanks

A 6 bolt rotor won't fit directly on centrelock hubs. You can buy an adaptor like this one (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=10262) but you can probably buy a rotor for that price.

Shimano hubs are fantastic and the SLX Conor mentions looks to be a good job.

A wheel build is about £20, but if you buy all the bits from the same place, most bike shops will do the build for free.

32 and 36 hole? There isn't much difference. XC boys will always want 32h, but for DH it doesn't matter. Just make sure your hubs and rim are the same!

32h is more popular so I'd go with that if you have the choice. Its a bit lighter, £4 cheaper for spokes, and about 3mins faster for your wheelbuilder!

Hand built Xt front hub, mavic 321 rim and dt swiss spokes = about £90. Providing the rotor is unused i'll swop it for an xt centrelock for you.

Mmm, tempting, although the disc is the tiniest bit used.. used about twice, up and down my drive, no rain has got near it.
What about a 325 rim? THey look to be the same price but stronger

Monty, a well built 321 is more than strong enough for a front wheel. (unless you like to plough through stuff with all the finesse of a drunk hippo).

that would be my choice.. Wondering about the strength of 721's?? alot of the pros use them, honda g cross used them in place of deemax as they are alot lighter and near as strong!

Aye, those pro 2's seem to look rather good going by the reviews!
Not thaaat dear either.
Steve, how much could you do me a 20mm hope pro 2 on an ex325 rim for?
Crc is about 75 quid.
Probably won't be buying for a while anyway, cant use the forks to christmas, so theres no point buying a new wheel now to see a cheaper one come up on ebay in december!

Any hope hub will be great, a hub for life not just for christmas!!! On a budget the DMR revolver hubs are great, standard bearings are terrible in them but the replacement one is the same as a hope bigun and makes them every bit as good as any other hub on the market.

:D. I like it :D
Aye, I think I'll go for that hope pro 2 on a mavic ex325(anybody used one of these?).
Am doing a 'room junk' clearout on ebay atm to pay for it :)

Those ex325 weigh quite a bit. An en321 would be plenty, especially for a front wheel.

Rite then, I'll stick to you guys's advice :D

He does...
But sadly they're dt swiss freeride/5.1/6.1 etc. :D
So still a little too dear for me :(
I'll send him a text though to see if he's anything else.

What do you guys think of azonic outlaws?
They seem to be quite strong but not a good hub from the reviews ive seen.. any of you have them?
Would you say their better than a hope pro2 on a 321?
Thanks again.

Paddy has put the outlaws on his new all rounder, so ask him what he thinks.

As for Ben, he's now open to offers, so don't miss out on a good deal if he has stuff about him. I know he has a few other items about him that aren't on the forum ;) ;)

Actually... that dt 440 on a 5.1 is nice!
Although.. slightly over what I want to pay!
Would definitely go for it if it was still there in a months(or however long it takes me to raise 100 quid!) time.. but the chances of that are quite slim!..shame :(

Insider info there ;) nice one. Thanks for letting me know!

I just got a Hope Pro 2 hub fitted to my Alex DP17 rims by Cicli Cycles Moneymore. £55 for hub and £11 for stripping wheel, fitting hub and rebuilding wheel.
The rims are decent enough and have taken a fair few knocks so I won't be changing them until I mangle one.

Top job from Cicli.
