Bought a laptop tonight and want to connect to my wireless connection. Current set up is wireless modem for my desktop pc and my isp is aol.
I recall having to obtain a wep key (security) to connect and browse the web on my sony psp but cannot remember how i obtained it, is this what is preventing me accessing the web on the laptop ???? :banghead:

The WEP key is a password on the network's security. Ebter 192.186.2.1 into internet explorer and it will bring up the modems browser page. Under security you should find the WEP passcode although it's probably ***'d out. It will be a password set by whoever set up the network.
That's the password to login to the network when you do a search for wireless networks and are asked for password. Then you can 'allow connection' all the time for the laptop.
Hope it helps a bit.

..and have a look at the back of the router - the default key might be on a sticker beside the serial number.

Thanks guys, got it sorted last night. Got the code online but my problem was entering the code once i had it.
2 sets of numerical keys was the problem, you can opt to see the code as you enter it, i did not and therefore i did not realise that the numerical keys on the right hand side of the keyboard did not register whilst entering the code (don't know why) but the numerical keys across the top of the keyboard did register for the numerical part of the wep code. Happy days :)
Just gotta sort the desktop now as i've altered the wep code there and knocked the connection off :banghead::D

Just to follow this up, i need some advise to get my desktop pc connected again . As stated above i went online via desktop to obtain the wep code to connect my laptop, once i got it and wrote down the code i clicked on it to change it to a 13bit code as opposed to 26bit. This is when the problem started, as soon as i clicked "apply" i instantly lost my connection on the desktop and i haven't been able to get it connected since.
My laptop is connected fine as i didn't install aol and i was prompted by int.exp to enter the wep code but because aol is on the desktop int.exp will not go through the same procedure even when i've uninstalled aol :banghead: :annoyed:
Help !!

Is your PC wireless? Have you searched for wireless networks?
