Hi all,

I'm finally giving in over my front end. I have had a creaking/pinging/knocking noise coming from my front end now for a while. I fitted new forks, but the problem had been there before and is getting worse now. I've undone all my work, re-greased and cleaned the headset bearings, done everything I can. Hubs seem okay, I'm lost as to what it is.

Where is the best shop for repair that I can rely on to get this problem solved?

Cheers

Colin

Something loose inside the rim?

And I would also go along with Lylo and chucky.

On recommendation, i'm heading up to Realcycles tonight after work, the bike is in the boot of the car.

Barry, no idea mate. I really am at a loss as to what it is.

If I push the forks down and let them rebound lifting the wheel off the ground, there is a loud clunk just as it starts to rebound. The headset all seems tight and it isn't loose in the hand. Starnut is fitted and I think there is enough tension there too. Hub axle turns okay in the hand.

So.... Over to the bike shop :)

What forks did you fit?
Some forks can be clunky on rebound..

I fitted RS Recon Race Air Solo forks.

That is just one instance of the noise. You can hear all the noises just riding along normally.

Don't worry, we will inspect the bike with our finest C.A.T equipment then all will be well again.

C.A.T= Creak Alleviating Device. We have lots of them, this is just one, and our favorite:

I second RealCycles, nothing but well mannered professional service.

Well mannered? Is there another shop in the area using our name? ;-)

(Well, I had to say it, before someone else did!)

Well, I kind of wrote it with that in mind ;) could be open for some debate! Not by me of course!

Well Steve showed me that hammer in this thread. So God knows what state I'll get it back in.

And I solely blame him for me also buying new brakes too. You shouldn't leave them out on display like that....

do you know the story of the tramp, who takes a shirt to a ladies door and asks if she could sew a button on it for him???

well Steve is something similar,
you take a bike part in and he sells you a bike to go on it!!!!!!!

Brookes Cycles Welshpool are brilliant!

But if your really stuck (suicidal) there's a bloke near Carryduff who 'fixes' bikes (permanently!)
