Anyone using it?

I just installed it on my laptop. I have dabbled in the past but this time I am going to give it a long go this time to see if it is a real viable alternative to Vista for the non-mac user.

was thinking of trying it but not sure there would be much new compared with the last release.

Plus the only linux machine im running at the minute is the media server which seems pretty stable so im reluctant to change anything. Whats it like?

my only advice is get into the command line and play around with it !

Can you give me an idea of what you can do in the command line?

basically everything!

But once you have used it for a while you will find yourself using for moving files etc.
just open it up and start playing with commands, its the best way to get to grips with linux especially file permissions.

a few commands to get you started:
ls ( lists all files in a folder)
cd <directory path> (moves your location to said directory)
cp (copy)
mv ( cut)
rm ( remove)

just avoid typing rm -rf * at all costs!

just avoid typing rm -rf * at all costs!

if you must use it, then always be sure to type 'pwd' first - if the answer is ' / ' then put the brakes on!

I had a play with Hardy Herron for a while, in fact it's still installed on my PC. I never use it much though. It seemed nice, and not at all like the nerdy cmd window driven beast I thought it would be. However, I couldn't get the driver for my wireless card, so couldn't access t'internet. And a computer without t'internet is like a bike without a front wheel. A bit pointless.

Out of box performance seems to be a lot better on Ibex. Pic'd my wireless card up straight away

Yea, it is expected by some to be the first real compeditior to windows, with increasing movements towards linux by dell etc
