Would you buy a frame a size down from your normal and run a longer seat post or would the bike just feel wrong?

I ran an absolute with a hightower of a seat post. So long as there is enough in the seat tube and it goes as far as the weld with the top tube, it should be ok.

However I think its a good indication that the bike is too small.

When I was fitting for my Meta 5 I could make the medium fit by extending the seat post out to its maximum, but whats the point. The large was obviously a better fit and felt just as good to ride.

Some people say that they like a frame as small as they can get away with as it feels more "chuckable" Whatever that is. Maybe they mean they are going to chuck it on ebay quicker?

Was that your medium 5.5 for sale on ebay with a funny story about large/medium......medium/large?

Ask SteveB about his too long/short high/low bike.

Yep that was mine Kenny. I will be more careful about assuming that all manufacturers S / M / L are the same in future.

It took so long for the new frame to come in I went off it while waiting for it!

I got a rocky mountain switch in medium, and was never comfortable on it, and as I am rather large I looked a bit silly. So from now on I always get large frames and have no problem chucking it around but I have heard many people saying to get a size smaller but I dont agree.

i've a med/large supreme and its the perfect size for me. I just couldn't find a comfortable position on my large meta 5 even though i thought it would be fine following a car park test ride. It takes a good hour on a bike to find out what its really like i think

As Aaron will know, I'm a both wheels on the ground man so this small frame for flickability doesn't appeal to me.

Larger buys (I include myself in that!) need to be very careful about running a lot of seatpost. I ran a large Meta for ages, with a long post, felt OK, when I changed to the XL it felt much better. Thing is I sold the old bike, now I always ran enough post in the frame, but it was a very long post, 3 months after selling it the seatpost/top tube weld cracked!

Now, it could have been the new owner ran too little post, but he was not that tall, so I suspect it was me that weakened. Before anyone asks, I replaced the frame for the guy.

Ultimately a too small frame will always be too small.

BTW G, did you have an interest in a Meta5 frame once?

If so, officially they're all sold out til next year now, but I might have a large coming available today as I can't the get the guys card to to authorise.

If interested call me first thing.
