If I can get an mot appointment next week (assuming the truck passes) Im up for it. Then again its probably not wise on a hardtail.

If Steve peat came over to do it and Glyn o` B talks about it on mtvcut there`s no excuse for not doing it.

Okay, whats the score with this? If we hit the hill on sunday whats the latest time we could start up? Also any idea what length of a hike? Im swaying towards driving down on saturday night, stayin in a b+b and getting pissed to boot. If Im doing it I'll be taking the hilux from belfast so I can take 2 maybe 3 people (depending on gear) + a few bikes. I owe luke a few so he has first call if it suits him.

I should know later in the week for definate what the score is my end of things.

Probably going down early sunday morning as Chris working saturday but defo gona make the trip down.Gona bring helmet cam with me so can record the carnage ;) :p

jimjam
October 01-2007, 04:14 PM
Okay, its a four hour drive (min) from belfast, plus an average 2 hour climb, which might be optimistic with bikes, probably half an hour dicking about/prep before setting off. We're talking about 7 hours before we descend if we leave from belfast so thats a no in my books. Tink what time do you reckon you'd be arriving at cp bearing in mind we want to avoid walkers?

honourablegeorge
October 01-2007, 04:15 PM
2 hours is about right for the climb with bikes, maybe even a mite less.

You'd want to be there at 8.00am at the latest to start the hike. I ran it in february and left the bottom car park at approx 8.30am, when I was coming back down to the car park an hour later there were quite a few walkers on the path.

Go to Westport the day before and get a few pints in Matt Molloys, enjoy the craic and then head for Croagh Patrick early Sunday morning.

I'd be worried about the walkers!

Maybe do an evening run instead to avoid the crowds, say head up around 3pm?

This would allow you to leave NI at leisure, do a run then find a pub for the night....

That would be okay on saturday but no so on sunday If folks have to work monday, also up at three, coming down at 5 or 5:30 could be touch and go if there are any hold ups whether or not you end up going down in the dark.
