Cannondale has voluntarily issued a Safety Recall Notice with the Consumer Product Safety Commission involving any 2007 and some 2008 mountain bikes equipped with either the Lefty Speed Carbon SL fork or Lefty Speed DLR 2 fork.

“Unfortunately there have already been injuries due to this issue. We strongly urge anyone that has purchased one of these bikes to contact their dealer immediately and have your bike inspected,” said Chris Peck, vice president of research and development at Cannondale.

Cannondale has learned of an error in the assembly process of these forks which may allow the telescope assembly of the fork to completely separate.

“The origin of the problem is an improper application of a thread locking compound to the damping cartridge,” Peck said. “The result is that the lower half of the assembly could potentially unthread and slide out of the upper sleeve.

“It’s important to note that the product design itself is not flawed nor is the manufacturing process. This is an assembly error. Cannondale Lefty product has been in our line for nearly a decade. It is race proven at the World Cup level and has passed the highest testing standards in the industry when manufactured correctly,” Peck added.

The Safety Recall Notice will be distributed to all authorized Cannondale dealers in conjunction with specific service procedures. Additionally, Cannondale will conduct a mailing direct to consumers who are in the Cannondale database. Cannondale has put appropriate control procedures in place to ensure quality prior to all future bicycle assembly.

I'll bet that makes you feel better when you're picking your teeth up off the floor when the fork separates.::yikes::

obviously learned their lesson a few years back then

Cannon dale had the same isue with the very first batch of lefty's. I was working in a shop that sold them at the time and we were told if we admited liability at any point we would lose the right to sell cannondales.

funnily enough the shop no longer sells cannondales. I wonder if the will recall all the frames that the headtubes and dropouts are likely to fall off as well...............

Just because you can do something differently doesn't mean you have to.

Cannondale should listen to that!
