Does anyone on t'forum ride there? Trixr4kidz and myself were up there today and spotted a few fresh tracks and one car passed us with a couple of bikes on coming out of the car park. First time I've been up there since I moved from Antrim a good few years ago - great spot, really deserted, and also good to know that my dogturd-tyre homing device works outside of Belfast.:D

I used to live just outside of ballyclare about 7 years ago and would go up quite regularly. Are there any decent trails/downhills etc there now? I've been thinkin of headin up that way for a while now.

Aye it's pretty good alright - lots of v. tight singletrack through trees, loads of wee drops and jumps and tons of potential. It's very dense and pretty dark due to the commercial forestry that goes on there, but it also means you basically have the place to yourself. Defintely going to start going there more. Easy access too, with 2 spots to park which both have trails finishing at them. Mr Trixr4kidz has been doing a bit of repair work on some existing stuff too...

I've ridden there on and off for about ten years, haven't been up this year more than twice.
Talking about tardree makes me feel like an old man, back in olden times we has trains of downhill bikes on trails with jumps, drops and manicured berms. we all had a laugh, I rarely arranged to meet anyone there we just all seemed to sober up at the same time on a sunday and chuck are gear on and head up into the trees.
Hopefully I'll be living close to the old trails again, I'm sure I still have spades and loppers hidden at the gulley, fort bill or at the drop opposite duncans.

A lot of the BOMB riders do some building up there. Wee Winston Copeland, Darran Moody etc..
Drove past it other day and thought i must give it a visit sometime. After hearing somebodies done some work makes me think i should head up sooner rather than later..

hi i live in ballyclare and used to go up quite a bit last year. still go up with the dog but stopped takin the bike...too wet even in summer. although with the last few weeks lack of rain might give it annother go. last time i was there was before xmas and most off the tracks would have been unrideable - too grown over

Still ride in Tardree and have since the mid eighties (on a Dawes Ranger back then).
It's not a bad spot if you know where to find the trails and it's in great condition at the minute. With the clearing that has gone on just down from the trig point, now is the time to build some new trails...
A group of us meet there most Sunday mornings around 8 in Duncan's carpark for a couple of hours. A good spot for night riding during the winter but watch out for "other forest users".

Where you there on Sunday past DJ?
Uncle Andy
May 08-2007, 03:20 PM
A couple of us head up most Friday afternoons around 4. Usually quite quiet and enough trails to keep you amused for a couple of hours. Some good jumps on the Duncans car park side. Most trails quite dry now.
DJ does a guy called Eddie still go out Sun morn?

Beechill, I wasn't out on Sunday past but a few of the gang were.
Uncle Andy, don't know a guy called Eddie, he doesn't ride with us but everyone is more than welcome.

ah right, that'll be who we spotted! They were leaving when we were about 30 minutes into our ride. We'll try to get up there earlier next time and maybe bump into a few of you.

That was probably me and my mate Gary. There are a few good trails in both the lower and upper parts of the forest. The lower end (carpark) is good to get the legs going. The upper is more technical and fast.
Were you the two guys who were just coming out of the upper forest when we went by? We were in a focus estate?
We go out most Sundays but not this one as we are for scotland tomorrow (7Stanes) and will probably be wrecked by sunday.
Give me a text if you are for the forest any sunday morning. We usually arrive by 0930 and ride for a couple of hours.
Regards
Eddie

Indeed, that was me (Paul) and TrixR4Kidz of this forum too. Thanks for the number mate, I've made a note of it if you want to edit it out of the public domain :) Enjoy the Stanes, I'll not be up there for the next 2 weekends, but will give you a beep the next time.

Thought I'd bump this back up.
I was up in Tardree yesterday with Eddie. Only getting back into biking after leaving my BMX down many years ago. Had a great time, although don't think I've been to bed so early on a Sat night since my mum grounded me for ripping my trousers on my said BMX.
As the weather has been great the last few weeks and the tracks are well dried making them fast, bit like BMXing apart from the bloody great trees in your way. Being relatively new to this I think tardree will be my home for a while, at least till I get my confidence up on the bike.
At least the wife can't give me a hard time for sitting on the PC all the time, now she'll be gurning about my new addiction, pedalling!
Off this Thursday so will probably be heading up around lunch time with some of my colleagues, now that Eddie has shown me where to go ;)
PS Eddie I'd kick your ass for giving me such a tough introduction, but don't think you'll have to worry as I can't lift my leg to do it!! Also thanks for giving me an excuse to park in Tardree on my own ;)

We use tardree all the time because its local and handy for our nights out with the local kids.
Been riding there for years and although the high side across the road from the carpark needs a lot of work the side at the carpark is now better than ever.
We go up there most Wednesday evenings and some saturday afternoons.

This wednesday is probably out for me, but i should be there next week. I bought myself a lovely shiny stainless steel spade for the job, It glints in the sunshine like a knife blade, trails built with that couldn't fail to be good!!!
